Maggie Downs is an award-winning journalist, author, and travel writer based in the Palm Springs area for two decades. She is the author of the memoir Braver Than You Think and the travel memoir 50 Things to Do Before You're Five, and her reporting and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, BBC Travel, AFAR, National Geographic, and numerous other national and international publications. A former newspaper reporter and editor, Maggie holds a master's degree in creative nonfiction from the University of California, Riverside, and brings a deeply reported, narrative-driven approach to stories about travel, culture, and connection. She is passionate about dumplings and coffee, but usually not together.
